Charts company GfK has revealed the UK’s best-selling Star Wars games, to mark the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor this week.

Combining data from GfK, Gallup and Chart-Track, GfK revealed in a GamesIndustry.biz report that the franchise has made £492m from physical games since 1995, making it the UK’s sixth biggest video games IP, ahead of Pokémon and The Sims.

The UK’s top five best-selling games franchises (in order) are FIFA, Call of Duty, Mario, Grand Theft Auto and Lego. These figures do not include digital sales and the Lego Star Wars games have been counted under both franchises.

The biggest physical Star Wars game was 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, which GfK says sold more than double the previous biggest Star Wars game, 2008’s The Force Unleashed, during its launch period.

EA’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is in eighth place. However, it’s noted that the title would likely have placed higher if digital data was included, since modern titles skew less towards physical sales.

Last year’s Lego Star Wars entry, The Skywalker Saga, was the fourth biggest Star Wars launch ever, but is yet to reach the best-seller list. It’s noted that Lego Star Wars games tend to sell over time, as Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga didn’t deliver big day-one numbers but is in the best-sellers.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC this Friday, April 28.

VGC wrote in our recent Star Wars Jedi: Survivor hands-on: “Star Wars Jedi Survivor feels like a third game in a series, rather than a direct sequel.

“Every element from the first game feels more refined, polished, and expanded upon, and if the final game can fulfill the expectations that our demo left us with after playing for a few hours, then we may have to retire Assassin’s Creed 2 as the benchmark for improvement on a promising original.”

The director of the Star Wars Jedi series recently said he hopes to make a trilogy of games.
