Servers under heavy strain at launch

Where’s our Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection review? Well, it’s coming, but we’re happy we sat tight beyond the pre-release embargo, because the servers are on fire now the title is publicly available. Aspyr is being attacked by irate fans for the state of the game, which is struggling massively with server capacity and has a “mostly negative” rating on Steam right now. For the record, the PlayStation performance is not much better.

Fans noticed around launch that there were only three 64-player servers available, and while Aspyr has been quick to respond, the release is still suffering from various connectivity and performance bugs. A massive patch has been issued on PS5 and PS4 to try and put out the fires, and we’ll be testing that out before submitting our review.

While online play was available to us during the review period, the servers were largely empty and we opted to wait until the public release before attaching a score to the title. We’ll bring you our verdict as fast as we can, but for now we’d probably recommend pumping the brakes before you purchase this – it looks like Aspyr has got a lot of post-release work to do.
