A VR game based on popular UK comedy show Taskmaster is in development.

Taskmaster VR is set to be released in 2024, and is being developed by new studio Scallywag Arcade in collaboration with the show’s production company Avalon.

Set for release on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3 and Steam VR (where it can currently be wishlisted), the game has players taking on a variety of comedy mini-games set for them by Taskmaster Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne.

Players will get to explore the Taskmaster House and studio from the show, and take on such tasks as smashing watermelons, tidying up rubber ducks and popping bubbles.

One of the main selling points of the game is that it will apparently give players the physical freedom to solve each task in their own way.

Davies and Horne will not only lend their likenesses to the game, but will also provide voice acting. “Expect scorn, praise and everything in between”, the game’s blurb reads.

“The team have done an incredible job and the game is a really exciting addition to the Taskmaster world,” Davies said in a statement. “On a personal note, the creation of a virtual reality Taskmaster takes me ever closer to my ultimate goal of working without even leaving my sofa.”

Horne added: “Genuinely, this is extraordinary, brilliant and very fun. Also, I’ve always wanted to be a contestant on Taskmaster so this is great for me as a VR user, except that I will also have my virtual self watching my attempts and undermining my confidence so I may well regret the whole venture after I’ve had a go.”

Scallywag Arcade is a new studio led by industry veterans who previously worked at Warner Bros, Aardman, Just Add Water and Merge Games.
