Microsoft’s long-running $1 Xbox Game Pass trial offer has been stopped

Microsoft‘s long-running $1 trial offer for Xbox Game Pass has officially ended.

The offer, which had been running for a number of years, let players try out Xbox Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass for a month for $1.

After this period, players would be able to either cancel their subscription or continue to use it at the standard price.

However, according to a statement Microsoft provided to The Verge, the trial is no longer being offered.

Xbox head of global communications Kari Perez told the site: “We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future.”

Earlier this month Microsoft sought to dismiss suggestions that it might raise Xbox Game Pass prices should its $69 billion merger with Activision Blizzard be approved.

The company was responding to a claim made by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that Microsoft could choose to increase the price of its Game Pass subscription plans following the addition of popular Activision content.

Microsoft responded: “Game Pass prices will not increase as a result of the Merger, and certainly will not increase to a point that offsets the substantial benefits of Activision titles coming to Game Pass on a day and date basis. This is especially so given Game Pass will continue to be constrained by B2P [buy to play].”

The company has also been slowly rolling out its new Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan, which lets up to five players share Game Pass benefits for a discounted price.

The service launched in Ireland and Colombia in September 2022, and rolled out to New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Hungary, Israel and Sweden last month, but has not yet arrived anywhere else.
