"No one could do what he did better than him"

James McCaffrey, an actor with a career spanning more than 35 years in television, film, and, of course, video games, has passed away following a battle with cancer, surrounded by friends and family. McCaffrey played Max Payne across all three games in the series and most recently voiced Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2 (a character based on the physical appearance of Remedy creative director Sam Lake).

Actor Kevin Dillon (Entourage's Johnny "Drama" Chase) first reported the sad news on Instagram, and TMZ later corroborated it. A representative for McCaffrey provided details to the outlet and a brief note which reads: "One of Dick Wolf's proteges ("Swift Justice"), McCaffrey went on to a successful 35-year career in television and film. Trained at the Actor's Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles."

Remedy posted a heartfelt tribute to McCaffrey, and Lake added: "I'm heartbroken to hear the sad news of James McCaffrey's passing. We worked together for more than 25 years. He was a lovely man and a dear friend. He was a key part of the Remedy family. He was a brilliant actor. No one could do what he did better than him."

McCaffrey is survived by his wife, Rochelle Bostrom, and daughter Tiernan. We wish them and all who knew him our condolences. His memory will live long in the iconic characters he brought to life. RIP, James.
