How to get Golden Plumes in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Chocobos are a huge part of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth since the game sends Cloud and company into the wide open world after leaving Midgar, and you can customize your feathered friends with Golden Plumes.

While you unlock the ability to customize your Chocobos with Golden Plumes very early in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the game isn’t super clear about where you can get them. Thankfully, obtaining Golden Plumes is easy and you can stock up on a ton of them without going too far off the beaten path. Here’s how you can start saving up for your next visit to the Chocobo Ranch.

Where to Get Golden Plumes in FF7 Rebirth

Golden Plumes are obtained from Chocobo-related activities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The first way to get them is by completing Chocobo Intel missions in each region of the world, taming new Chocobos in the process. There’s only one Chocobo Intel mission per region (with some exceptions), however, so you can’t rely on these to build up your Golden Plume stash.

The main way to get Golden Plumes in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is by repairing Chocobo Stops in each region. These are rest areas that allow you to restore your party’s HP/MP with the use of a Cushion. As you explore the world, you’ll come across baby Chocobos that will lead you to broken-down Chocobo Stops in need of repair. All you need to do is lift up the Chocobo Stop’s sign and you’ll receive a Golden Plume as a reward.

Once you have enough Golden Plumes, you can return to any Chocobo Tack Shop to purchase new items for your trusty steed. While there are different Chocobos for each region, any items you buy can be used with any Chocobo as long as you remember to equip them for each bird. Chocobo items don’t cost too many Golden Plumes either, so you can go on a spending spree without putting in much work.

All Chocobo gear is cosmetic when exploring the open world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but it becomes much more important later on in the game when you unlock the Gold Saucer. Chocobo gear features different stats for the Chocobo Racing minigame, so you can fine-tune your bird to fit your play style with the right outfit.
