How to Get a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

2 months ago 98

Exploring the open world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is much easier with a Chocobo, and thankfully, you’ll get your first feathered friend very early in the game. You’ll still need to explore some of the Grasslands on foot, however, but this guide will tell you exactly where to go to get a Chocobo.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Chocobo Location

To get a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, just follow the main story objectives. After leaving Kalm and entering the Grasslands for the first time, your objective markers will lead you to a man named Bill who runs the nearby Chocobo Ranch.

After finding Bill and his broken-down truck, Cloud and company will continue to head toward Junon. Their progress will quickly become blocked after encountering a dangerous swamp, however, so now you’ll need to follow the large yellow signs and visit the Chocobo Ranch to cross the waters.

Once you reach the Chocobo Ranch, you’ll be introduced to Bill and the children who help him run the place. They’re short on available Chocobos at the moment, but there’s an escaped one that they’ll lend you if you manage to capture it.

How to Follow the Chocobo Tracks

Your next objective is to follow the Chocobo tracks to track down the missing bird. It’s easy to miss the tracks, so keep a close eye on the ground and look out for bright yellow feathers to guide you along the way.

The tracks begin right at the main gate of the Chocobo Ranch, so don’t trek too far away or you’ll lose them. The footprints lead south down the main path, so just follow them until you reach a huge clearing.

How to Catch Piko

Once you arrive at the clearing, it’s time to wrangle your first Chocobo. This is a stealth mission, so you’ll need to reach Piko without being spotted by the other wild birds. To do so, make use of the tall grass and throw rocks to force the Chocobos to look the other way.

This is a relatively easy stealth mission, so you should be able to reach Piko rather quickly. The game will give you frequent checkpoints as you get closer to the bird, too, so you don’t have to restart from the beginning if you get spotted. Once you reach Piko and bring the bird back to the ranch, you’ll be able to call a Chocobo to ride from anywhere in the Grasslands by pressing the R1 button.

This is far from the last Chocobo that you’ll have to wrangle in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, however. Each region has a different type of Chocobo that you need to tame, and you can’t bring Piko with you into different parts of the open world. Future Chocobo wrangling puzzles will become more difficult, but the main idea stays the same.
