Story

As mentioned above, Grit & Valor: 1949 takes place in a world where World War II didn't end. By 1949, the Axis powers have used advanced technology to create powerful Mechs, taking control of Europe. The Allied forces are almost completely defeated, but a brave group of resistance fighters remains. You play as the commander of an elite squad of Mech-Pilots. Your mission is to escort a Command Vehicle carrying an EMP device across Europe to New Germany. There, you must destroy Machine Tower, the enemy’s headquarters, and turn the tide of the war.

Each mission you take on will have unique challenges with different enemy waves and tricky terrains. The story unfolds as you get to know your Mech-Pilots, learning about their sacrifices and bravery. You'll need to think strategically and adapt to ever-changing battlefields, using the terrain and your upgraded Mechs to overcome the enemy. This journey through a war-torn Europe is a tale of courage and resilience, as you fight to bring hope back to the world.

Gameplay

Grit & Valor: 1949 promises an exciting mix of real-time tactics and roguelite gameplay. Players will lead a squad of resistance Pilots and their captured Mechs on a mission to break the Axis’ control over Europe. The main goal is to escort a Command Vehicle carrying an EMP device through dangerous territories to destroy the Axis’ Machine Tower. This tower is their massive oil refinery and communication hub. Every decision you make on the battlefield can change the course of the mission.

The game features a dieselpunk world where Axis forces rule with giant Mechs. These deadly machines patrol the lands, hunting down any remaining Allied forces. But hope isn’t lost. The resistance has regrouped, and you must lead these brave Pilots in daring missions to strike back. Your task is to deliver the EMP deep into enemy territory and destroy the Machine Tower, aiming to turn the tide of the war.

Gameplay focuses on real-time tactics, as each new region and battlefield you enter will have unique enemy waves and terrain challenges. You’ll need to think fast and use the environment to your advantage. Position your Mechs wisely to defend your Command Vehicle and complete mission objectives. Terrain features like high ground for increased damage or cover to reduce incoming fire will be crucial.

In addition to this, you can customize your Mechs and Pilots, adapting your tactics for each mission. Earn Valor to level up your Pilots’ abilities and collect Scrap to upgrade your Mechs. Between missions, return to the Resistance Base to regroup, rebuild, and redeploy. This is where you strategize, using your resources to prepare for the next challenge. Each mission offers rewards, but if your Command Vehicle is destroyed, you must rethink your strategy and try again.

Development

Grit & Valor: 1949 is being developed by Liverpool-based studio Milky Tea and published by Megabit, a new arm launched by Aonic. The collaboration brings together Milky Tea’s creative vision and Megabit’s publishing prowess to create a unique blend of roguelite and real-time strategy gameplay.
