Concord’s First Open-Beta Will Kick Off This July

2 days ago 29

Firewalk Studios upcoming Overwatch-like first-party PlayStation game, Concord, will have its first open-beta this coming July from July 18-21, though anyone keen on getting into the action can pre-order it for access to the open-beta starting July 12-14.

The news was announced with a short clip showcasing a little more about the game, and along with gameplay previews going live at multiple outlets.

While Helldivers 2 is technically a second-party game, Concord is the first live-service game to come from the PlayStation Studios family of teams that was kicked up as part of former president Jim Ryan’s push for a bunch of live-service titles.

So yes, Helldivers 2 has been a great live-service hit for PlayStation, but the credit for its success goes to Arrowhead more than it does Sony. With Concord however, this is the first real test for PlayStation’s live-service efforts.

How it performs will set the tone for games to come like FairGame$ and every other live-service effort straight from PlayStation Studios.

Early previews seem positive, but there’s enough competition across live-service games that even with the backing of PlayStation, there’s no guarantee Concord is going to pop-off and become this new pillar of PlayStation’s lineup.

We’ll see in July how players take to it when the open-beta goes live.
