CD Projekt has announced that it’s working on an official mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The mod editor, which is in development for the PC version of the game only, is expected to launch next year.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’re working on a mod editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!” CD Projekt said.

“It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content. We’re planning on releasing it for free in 2024.”

CD Projekt said it plans to share more information on the mod editor next year.

Company CEO Adam Kiciński claimed in May that The Witcher 3 had sold over 50 million copies since its release in 2015, making it one of the 10 best-selling games of all time, “according to public data”.

The company will be hoping that the mod editor gives the game a new lease of life while fans await the next mainline Witcher game, which is codenamed Polaris.

CD Projekt first announced in March 2022 that it was working on a new Witcher game which would kick off “a new saga” for the franchise.

It also revealed at the time that the open-world title was being built with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, rather than CD Projekt’s proprietary Red Engine, which powered previous Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077.

The game entered pre-production last May, and in October CD Projekt confirmed that it would be the start of a new Witcher trilogy. It also said it was planning to release all three games within a six-year period after the first.

In August, CD Projekt said almost 260 developers were working on the next mainline Witcher game, and that they’d be joined by “a big part” of Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty’s 300-strong team after the expansion was released in September.
