63 Days: Everything We Know

1 week ago 44

If you like War Mongrels and Hatred, both products of Polish developer Destructive Creations, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for their next upcoming game, 63 Days. Most fans were hoping for a sequel to the isometric shoot ‘em up, Hatred. However, it seems Destructive Creations has grown fond of the real-time tactics of the eastern front of World War II, War Mongrels, and wants to create a new game along those lines. Read on for everything we know so far about 63 Days down below.

What is 63 Days?

Destroyed city with train in the middle of the road

63 Days is an upcoming isometric real-time strategy game currently being developed and published by Destructive Creations. It tells the story of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising during World War II, as the Polish resistance strives to destroy the German army and regain control of the city. In the history books, the Uprising was unsuccessful. This same bleakness will feature in 63 Days, too. Uncertain of the outcome, you’ll fight for independence with everything you have.

Story

Houses in flames

In 1944, amidst the ruins of war-torn Warsaw, 63 Days unfolds a gripping tale of resilience and defiance. Follow a determined brotherhood as they strive to reclaim their city from occupation, risking everything in the face of insurmountable odds. Against the backdrop of a scarred Poland, the game captures the essence of sacrifice and determination. Born into a free Poland after years of foreign rule, the protagonist embodies the fury and resolve to seize control, no matter the cost.

United by purpose and stripped of everything by war, these comrades navigate the treacherous streets of Warsaw, relying on their courage, wit, and unity. But as they confront the brutal realities of their struggle, the ultimate question remains: can they defy oppression and emerge victorious?

Gameplay

Gameplay-wise, 63 Days mimics War Mongrels the closest. Developer Destructive Creations seeks to build on War Mongrels’ mechanics to bring forth their new game. Fans of Commandos will also find striking similarities in the upcoming 63 Days. All in all, prepare for stealth gameplay and intense guerilla warfare. You’ll engage in strategic play, planning and executing attacks on a battlefield. Further, you’ll be free to play solo or in an online co-op. Here’s the official gameplay description via Steam below:

Key Features

  • Outsmart your enemy – If we plan well and execute correctly as a group, we may just stand a chance. They won't even know what hit them! We have a lot of options for how to approach each mission. Let's hope we make the right decisions and prevail.
  • Join the uprising – Wherever our uprising takes us, our bravery will be remembered for generations. Our story will be told; there will be enough survivors to tell the tale. We'll employ good tactics, be fearless, and be like ghosts.
  • Use brute force – We know how to fight. We prefer to be stealthy, to maximize our chances, minimize our losses. But if that approach fails us, we'll shoot our way through.
  • Leverage the environment – We know Warsaw inside out. We'll use it to our advantage. The Germans may have destroyed large parts of the city, but that will come back to bite them now!
  • Rally your allies – We’re fewer in numbers but stronger in motivation and the bonds that keep us together. Good cooperation is one of our strengths. Each of us has a different background, personality, and skills, but we can fight together well. Having a good friend to fight alongside you and have your back is not only more fun but also a big advantage.

Development

Tanker in warzone 63 Days

Developer and publisher Destructive Creations is currently working on 63 Days. From the trailer, the upcoming game seems to follow in the footsteps of Destructive Games’ previous War Mongrels. It’s likely the developer will use the same engine and incorporate similar mechanics. However, we do expect that 63 Days will also have independent and, hopefully, improved mechanics that set it apart from any games you’ve played before.

Destructive Creations promises to optimize 63 Days for the Steamdeck, including improving controller support, text scaling, and overall performance. As they work on building on War Mongrels’ gameplay mechanics, here’s to hoping 63 Days knocks it out of the park, and even spans out an ongoing series. Lord knows the Warsaw Uprising still in need of a spectacular RTS feature.

63 DAYS || REVEAL TRAILER

Yes, you can now watch the 63 Days’ reveal trailer for a sneak peek into the story and gameplay. It paints a vivid picture of the 1944 Warsaw, Poland, lore and mechanics to expect, complete with excellent sound, quality graphics, and fresh gameplay. Indeed, the gameplay looks promising, with instances of planning and executing attacks. Let’s hope, though, that 63 Days stands out enough from its spiritual predecessor, War Mongrels, because, as of now, the similarities are a little too much to warrant a new game.
