Where Is Gekko From In Valorant?

Valorant’s Gekko is the sixth Initiator to be added to the game. He was released in March 2023 along with Episode 6 Act 2 and was first revealed to the players during Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) LOCK//IN tournament. Gekko’s ability kit is very unique in the game since he can summon various pets who have their own individual powers. These pets can stun, blind, reveal and disable enemies, depending on what Gekko chooses to use.

Gekko’s Personality, Nationality Explained

Gekko hails from Los Angeles, United States but has Latin American roots. In his reveal trailer, we could see Gekko and his mother converse in Spanish, hinting at the Latin American connection. 

In a video titled Gekko: Viva Familia // Dev Diaries, Valorant developers said, “A lot of the look of Gekko was inspired by the LA fashion scene.” Valorant Narrivate Writer Joe Killeen stated that Riot Games was looking to introduce an agent whose personality was defined by the “blending of two different worlds and that they found Los Angeles as the perfect choice for the agent’s hometown.

Gekko is Valorant’s 22nd agent and he is the owner of Dizzy, Mosh, Thrash, and Wingman. His real name is Mateo Armendáriz De la Fuente, according to the official lore. Gekko’s crew of four creatures has the ability to transform between animalistic forms and a globule state depending on cooldowns.

His official biography states, “Gekko the Angeleno leads a tight-knit crew of calamitous creatures. His buddies bound forward, scattering enemies out of the way, with Gekko chasing them down to regroup and go again.”

Notably, Gekko is a stylish, young Hispanic American who is clad in a green, purple, and orange vest over a short-sleeved black shirt. He sports brown sweatpants and rocks white and gold shoes with blue socks. As a style icon, Gekko has green dyed hair and rocks bird-shaped earrings.

Valorant has been doing a great job of introducing a diverse range of agents for players to choose from. The developers also stated that it gives them a lot of joy and motivation to see how players react and relate to the agents themselves.
