Valve's Official Allocation of DPC Points for TI12 Invites Makes No Sense

As The International 12 (TI12) grows closer, the DPC points each team possesses is crucial to determine the 12 teams that receive direct invites to the event.

A recent observation shows that Valve’s official DPC rankings on its website once again contain errors, leading to some teams having more DPC points than they should.

Execration, nouns, Blacklist International, and Bleed Esports have all been awarded 300 points even though they finished 13-16th at the Bali Major 2023.

The Dota Pro Circuit 2023 (DPC 2023) rankings, crucial for determining teams' qualifications for The International (TI), have once again raised doubts due to inaccuracies. Valve's official rankings for the current season of Dota 2 have seemingly been marred by significant errors, as some unexplained points were to certain teams following the conclusion of the group stage at The Bali Major 2023. The inconsistent calculations with respect to DPC rankings on Dota 2’s official website question the integrity and reliability of Valve's ranking system.

Discrepancies in DPC Rankings

In an unexpected turn of events, Valve granted 300 additional DPC points to four teams: Execration, nouns, Bleed Esports, and Blacklist International for seemingly no reason. These four teams were eliminated in the Group Stages of the ongoing Bali Major 2023 and were not supposed to receive any DPC point

For context, 400 DPC points are the number of points that are supposed to be awarded to the teams that secure a  7th-8th place at the major. The reason behind this remains unknown, and the correction has yet to be made at the time of writing.

Dota 2 DPC rankings

This is not the first time that Valve's DPC rankings have faced issues. In previous instances, discrepancies arose regarding point allocations and penalties, calling into question the accuracy and fairness of the system. Notably, last year, Valve awarded Fnatic with an invite to The International 2022 over Virtus.Pro. This was contrary to the DPC rankings calculations published by Liquipedia.

The erroneous allocation of DPC points to teams already eliminated from The Bali Major 2023 has led to more doubts regarding the final DPC standings. Valve must address these discrepancies promptly, ensuring that the rankings accurately reflect teams' performances and adhere to the established rules.
