The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom reviews are coming in and it’s safe to say, it is set to be an exceptional sequel.

With Tears of the Kingdom releasing tomorrow, the embargo has lifted on critic’s reviews. With the Breath of the Wild sequel sporting 9s and 10s across the board, it is already one of the highest-rating games ever made.

Tears of the Kingdom Reviews

With the Zelda franchise dominating game records over the years, it is perhaps no surprise that TotK is following suit. However, with it being a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, some fans were anxious it would not live up to its predecessor. However, that fear seems to be unwarranted as review scores show it is even better.

With Breath of the Wild currently sitting at the 14th highest-rated game on Metacritic, early reviews are placing TotK in the top 25 already. This is incredible news especially considering players have yet to get their hands on it.

As it stands, OpenCritic has placed Tears of the Kingdom at a 97 overall rating with 100% of its critics recommending it. This makes it the highest-rated game released in 2023 so far as well as the highest-rated game on OpenCritic alongside Super Mario Odyssey.

What Critics Are Saying

Eurogamer claims TotK is “a terrific Breath of the Wild follow-up with some brilliant new systems, amazing views and more dungeon-type spaces”.

According to GameCentral, this is “one of the best Zelda games ever made” and Tom Marks at IGN says the sequel raises the bar “even higher into the clouds.”

Critics seem to draw emphasis to the game’s expansive world, immersive gameplay and new systems. With the main gripe of Breath of the Wild being the game’s weapon durability system, critics praise the improvements made this time around.

Now all that remains to be seen is how the score changes when Tears of the Kingdom releases worldwide tomorrow for Nintendo Switch.
