'Taxi Life' Developer Reveals What's Next For The Game On Xbox & Beyond

The idea of cruising around as a taxi driver, stopping at red lights and indicating before every turn, is clearly something that's proving popular with Xbox fans - as Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator has debuted in the "Top Paid" charts.

We've been having a surprising amount of fun with it as well, although it's not without its issues. AI drivers smashing into you for no reason and pedestrians getting in the way too often are two of the biggest problems as things stand.

Fortunately, these problems are being addressed in the near future, with developer Simteract taking to Steam earlier this week to outline what's in the works. Here's a sample of what the team had to say:

"At the moment, we're working on improving the behavior of the cars. For example we know some cars can run into the back of your car quite randomly. It can happen to you once every five minutes, but it can also never happen to you. Our second piece of AI work focuses on pedestrians. Especially those who use crosswalks too often and can block the player."

"Our IDEAL plan is to release a patch every one or two weeks or so until Taxi Life reaches a standard that satisfies you, the players. Over the next few days, we will be releasing patches to correct bugs and improve AI. This is our plan for the patches that will be arriving shortly."

"To give you more details, we decreased the number of random collisions between AI vehicles (or with your car). We've also reduced the amount of pedestrians a little bit and some of the crossings shouldn't be problematic anymore."

In terms of other improvements, the developer is working to add more racing wheel support as part of a step-by-step plan, although there's no word whether this'll be coming to Xbox or just PC. Performance is another area that's being targeted, but again this latest statement only mentions PC and PlayStation 5.

Interestingly, Simteract does have some big plans for the future of Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator including more cars, an expanded map and new features, but all of that is taking a backseat for now while these issues are addressed.
