Streetdog BMX: Everything We Know

4 months ago 121

Aside from Riders Republic, there aren’t all that many all-in-one extreme sports games to get behind these days. And Matt Hoffman’s Pro BMX, well, that ship seems to have sailed a long, long time ago. Point is, we’re due a new biking chapter for consoles and PC, and if what Yeah Us! Games is chalking up turns out to be the remedy for our post-Matt Hoffman blues, then we could be in for a real treat when Streetdog BMX finally graces the shores at some stage in the near future.

As it currently stands, we don’t actually know when this new BMX-centric platter will arrive on its chosen platforms. That said, we do know that it’ll feature “crazy tricks, high scores, and sick bails”—three signature elements that make up most, if not all extremes sports cult favorites. But what else can we expect to see arise from the foundations of this new IP? Well, if you are interested in what’s to come in the so-called Streetdog BMX, then be sure to read on.

What Is Streetdog BMX?

Streetdog BMX gameplay

Streetdog BMX is an upcoming “freestyle extreme sports game” in which players are invited to participate in a series of events across a total of six obstacle-heavy maps. The game, which will allow you to mold your own character, will also grant you access to a treasure trove of “devious challenges”—daring feats that you must overcome by inventing new lines and escalating your creativity to vast new heights.

Streetdog BMX is an extreme sports game that sees you riding through six expansive levels in search of extreme tricks, great lines, and devious challenges,” Yeah Us! Games wrote in a press release. “Fans of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Dave Mirra BMX will be right at home in this fun and challenging BMX game.”

Story

If it’s a story-driven BMX game you’re on the market for, then you ought to search elsewhere, as Streetdog BMX doesn’t seem to offer anything particularly narrative-focused. That isn’t to say it won’t feature anything with a pulse, mind you; its elevator pitch just seems to tell us otherwise.

The good news is, that players will be able to create their own characters, and with them, explore new locations and unlock a whole bunch of cosmetics and pieces of gear to bulk out their rides for future exploits. Again, nothing overly fancy, but enough to allow you the freedom to personalize and shape the game in any way you see fit, essentially.

Gameplay

Given the fact that even the developers themselves referenced both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Dave Mirra BMX in their elevator pitch, it’s safe to assume that the gameplay in the upcoming BMX title will adopt a lot of their core mechanics. It’s also likely that the game will emulate several of the key ingredients that fleshed out the team’s earlier works, such as Pumped BMX Pro and Trail Boss BMX. In other words, if it’s a love letter to Pro Skater that you’re after, then this could very well scratch that itch.

The game’s description describes each of the six available maps as “huge”, meaning, we can also expect to find numerous challenges to partake in, as well as a whole lot of potential lines to invent and master. And while each of said maps wont necessarily have any major story-driven components to sift through, it appears that players will be able to essentially “mold” their own narratives.

In case you missed the initial announcement that aired earlier this week, the creative force behind Streetdog BMX is Yeah Us! Games, a team that recently lay the foundations for both Pumped BMX and Trail Boss BMX. Suffice it to say, the team has more than enough experience in the extreme sports field to warrant a third game. Or at least, its portfolio appears to indicate that, anyway.

Developer aside, Streetdog BMX is also being published by Null Games, a relatively new firm that, aside from breathing life into Yeah Us! Games’ newest addition, is also working towards bringing the likes of Demon Spore, ExeKiller, and Athena Crisis to consoles and PC over the next two years.

Null Games recently took to its chosen streaming handles to post a brief gameplay trailer of Streetdog BMX—a one-minute clip that highlights some of the maps, characters, and of course, combos that players will be able to thread together. Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Streetdog BMX is due to arrive on PC via Steam at some point in 2024. As for whether or not it’ll latch onto the likes of Xbox or PlayStation is still unclear, though it appears the game will be exclusive to PC at launch. Having said that, publisher Null Games did go on to say in a recent trailer that the team was aiming to bring the game to Nintendo Switch, too — so not all hope is lost on that one.

As far as launch editions go, Streetdog BMX will only have one: the standard copy, which is currently set to launch across Steam. Here’s hoping, then, that we’ll have a chance to see more of it (as well as any potential special editions that may or may not be in the pipeline) ahead of its arrival. Fingers crossed, anyway.
