Popular Indian esports caster Piyush “Spero” Bathla expressed his views on the future of esports in India and Indian esports organizations if Krafton’s currently suspended title Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) does not make a comeback. Spero expressed optimism about the sustainability of the esports industry and added that the players and teams would switch to other games. Additionally, he emphasized the sustainability of Indian esports organizations such as Global Esports and S8UL Esports, which possess robust support systems and are poised to persist in their operations independent of the status of BGMI.

Spero expresses optimism in the Indian esports industry

In a recent livestream, a viewer asked Spero about the future of esports in India and Indian esports organizations if BGMI does not make a comeback. Responding to this, Spero expressed his confidence in the growth and sustainability of esports as an industry, stating that it is not going anywhere. He acknowledged that if BGMI does not return, players will inevitably shift their focus to other games. “I hope they shift to New State Mobile because New State Mobile is very similar to BGMI, and it’s something that we love,” he added.

Spero also expressed his views on the sustainability of esports organizations in India. According to Spero, several organizations will continue operating in the country. “The OG (original) organizations, such as Global Esports, S8UL Esports, and GodLike Esports, I think these organizations are never going anywhere. Revenant Esports and Orangutan Gaming as well. These are very strong organizations, and they have a very strong backup. I don’t think they are going anywhere,” he added.

The government of India suspended BGMI in July 2022 under Section 69A of the IT Act 2000, citing national security and privacy concerns. It has been over seven months since the game’s ban, but neither the government nor Krafton has commented on the current status of the game or its potential comeback. Although the status of BGMI’s return is still uncertain, the Indian gaming community still believes the game will eventually come back. Notably, Krafton recently warned third-party tournament organizers to stop hosting BGMI tournaments. Fans are still not sure what this action means for the game’s return.
