Snax on Why the DBS Should Be Banned in BGMI

In recent seasons, the DBS shotgun has emerged as a dominant force in the highly competitive world of PUBG Mobile. A shotgun that was mostly ignored for the longest time, was demoted from an air drop weapon to normal spawn loot to increase its usability, has become the biggest threat of esports players overnight. The influence of the DBS can also be observed in BGMI Esports, which is experiencing a resurgence after a 10-month ban period. During a recent watch party for the Skyesports Championship Series BGMI, Raj "Snax" Varma witnessed Jonathan fall victim to the DBS, prompting the streamer to share his own experiences of playing with and against this formidable weapon.

Snax on why the DBS deserves a Nerf

Snax, spectating the semifinals of the Skyesports Championship Series BGMI, was stunned as Jonathan's aggressive push was abruptly halted by a DBS. Snax immediately pointed out the issue with the DBS, noting that its suddenness makes it difficult to prepare for when rushing opponents.

Fans in the chat expressed their thoughts on the matter, with one individual sharing that close-range fights are no longer enjoyable due to the DBS. Snax empathized, stating, "When I see clutches happening with the DBS, like I've seen Aksath do it 3 or 4 times, it's both satisfying and frustrating. It feels like this gun is completely ruining close-range encounters."

Addressing both perspectives, he further added, "It's simply irritating. It feels great when you eliminate someone with it, but when you find yourself on the receiving end, you can't help but feel irritated." He concluded by expressing his opinion that the DBS should be nerfed rather than outright banned from the game.

The prevalence of the double-barrel pump-action shotgun in esports matches has prompted numerous figures within the community to voice concerns about its excessive usage in close-quarters combat. Zishan "Mazy" Alam, a prominent Hindi caster, has strongly hinted that Tencent may consider banning the weapon from official tournaments. Reacting on one of Aksath's remarkable 1v4 clutch, Mazy stated, "The officials will take this feedback seriously. It’s likely that they’ll send this gun back inside air drops”.

Considering the history of PUBG Mobile's developers, it is clear that weapon balancing adjustments have not always been swift or equitable. Certain weapons have dominated the competitive scene for years, and players have grown overly reliant on these popular choices. While the emergence of the DBS as a force to be reckoned with in close-range encounters was initially refreshing, it appears that the overall player base is dissatisfied with its overwhelming performance. Although reducing the gun's excessive range may seem like a potential solution, it is still too early to gauge the impact of the recent 2.6 patch update, which altered the hierarchy of weapons by providing movement buffs to SMGs. The extent to which this update revolutionizes close-range combat in PUBG Mobile remains to be seen
