But how long will that take?

'Whole Slate' Of Modern Final Fantasy Games Expected To Release On Xbox

Back in late August, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida insisted the future was bright for Square Enix games on Xbox, and once again we've been hearing positive rumours about the FF series in recent days.

Windows Central's Jez Corden appeared on a recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast where he suggested that the "whole slate" of modern Final Fantasy games will end up on Xbox - although the timings remain unknown:

"I've heard that the whole slate's on the docket including Final Fantasy 7 and 16 and Pixel Remasters. A lot of people were wondering if Sony had locked down Final Fantasy 7 forever... I've heard that is not the case and that Final Fantasy 7 will eventually come to Xbox. I don't know when it will, and I don't know if it'll be in the first wave."

"You'll probably be able to expect Pixel Remasters and maybe Final Fantasy 16 initially."

Following up on this, VG247 editor Alex Donaldson weighed in on the topic on ResetEra over the weekend to suggest that according to his sources, there's no "active development" on Remake or Rebirth as things stand.

This would suggest that Jez's mention about Pixel Remasters and 16 coming first seems the most likely:

"I'll go ahead and just outright say that to my knowledge, there is presently no active development on an Xbox version of Remake or Rebirth. They will obviously eventually do it. But as far as being in active port development now, to my understanding, which I am quite confident in, they are not."

"16 I think is more obvious and clear-cut... you only need to look at Yoshida's comments over the last six or so months. It's clear that will happen sooner rather than later."

Obviously there's no confirmation on anything right now from Square Enix's side, but we've already heard from the company that they're planning to include Xbox as part of an aggressive multiplatform strategy moving forward.

Titles from SE's back catalogue will be part of this as well, so more Final Fantasy on Xbox makes perfect sense!
