Sonic Heroes was originally released in 2003 and is noted as being the first Multiplatform entry in the long-running franchise, launching for PS2, GameCube, and Xbox. While the game retains the basic 3D environments used by Sonic Adventure, it ditches the adventure-based gameplay in favour of more linear platforming, giving it more in common with the classic Sonic titles of the 1990s.

Looking ahead, SEGA is also working on Sonic X Shadow Generations for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, with the game targeting a late 2024 release.
