The Rubik's Cube is a classic puzzle toy that's often been the easiest way to show off your skills. Some people can even solve it in a matter of seconds whereas it takes most of us probably hours, if that. And now you can take it into the palm of your hand with the newly-released mobile game Rubik's Match 3!

While some purists may baulk at it, Rubik's Match 3 is indeed an officially licensed game based on the toy. The Rubik's Cube, which was invented by Erno Rubik is a deceptively simple piece of plastic where you need to turn the alternating sides in order to make the colours match up. It's an addictive and fiendishly difficult puzzle and one that's ripe for translating to mobile.

Of course, this is where purists and regular people may tend to agree. It's unclear from the trailers just how the Rubik's Cube integration works in this match-3. But if you're looking purely for a new twist on the formula this may be the game for you.

Personally speaking, I'm not sure how I feel about Rubik's Match 3. On the one hand it's of course interesting to see a game based on such a venerable toy and classic Christmas present as the Rubik's cube, but I wasn't able to parse exactly what made it unique from the trailer and store page, aside from the obvious branding.
