On 22nd February, Riot Games officially unveiled the name of its upcoming fighter game, moving away from the code name "Project L." Executive producer of the game Tom Cannon revealed that the game is headed into a new phase of production and development and hence the change in name. Project L will officially be called 2XKO from now on.

Tom also revealed that the game's dev team has grown significantly since the last update. He also added that 2XKO will be popping up in different places around the world with a playable demo to gather player feedback.

Project L Official Name Revealed To Be 2XKO

Riot Games officially revealed the name of its much anticipated League of Legends-themed fighting game which was previously titled “Project L.” Named 2XKO, this fighting game has reportedly reached a new milestone in its development.

While many were wondering how the game's name is pronounced, the official Twitter handle wrote, "It's pronounced how it's spelled." The announcement videos showed new gameplay clips in bits and pieces but it only showed characters that we already knew existed in the game.

After acknowledging the feedback that players gave the dev team via playtests and play demos, like the one at Evo 2023, Tom Cannon revealed that there would be more this year.

He said, "Overall, we're building an always-evolving fighting game for the FGC [Fighter Game Community] and there's so much to be excited for! But there's also a lot we still have to figure out, and so that's where we're going to need your help. Last fall, we brought the game to Evo to get your feedback and we're extremely grateful for all the time and support you gave us there."

He added that this year the dev team wants to take the same community focus to the next level and give players more opportunities to play 2XKO and give Riot feedback.

In a way to do this, 2XKO will be touring different places with its pop-up, playable demos, starting with EVO in Japan in April. Tom Cannon added, "2024 will be about getting you more involved with events, updates and, yes, maybe even some at-home playtesting later this year."

The executive producer also revealed that Riot Games is aiming to fully launch 2XKO in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC.

Those interested can head over to play2XKO.com to register for testing. However, this sign-up is specifically for upcoming playtests, so even those already signed up need to sign up again.
