During the first day of the group stage of the Riyadh Masters 2023, PSG.LGD and Gaimin Gladiators met for one of the most anticipated series of the tournament. As the two teams showcased Dota 2 of the highest order, Gaimin gained the upper hand in the first game thanks to a stronger draft, while PSG.LGD relied on a high-tempo lineup to secure victory in the second game which proved to be much more competitive. While Quinn "Quinn" Callahan was a sight to behold on Pangolier in both games for Gaimin, PSG.LGD's offlaner Li "niu" Kongbo was the MVP in turning things around for his team in the second game to tie the group stage series.

Gaimin Gladiators vs PSG.LGD: Match recap and highlights

Recap

In game 1, Gaimin outdrafted PSG.LGD because the team possessed tanky cores capable of controlling the map early on. PSG.LGD could do nothing but watch its towers fall as dyrachyo led the way for Gaimin on Broodmother after winning all three lanes. There was some chip damage available for PSG.LGD but its cores were not farmed enough, and as such, the impact was minimal. Gaimin had clear plans, made no mistakes, and finished the game in 30 minutes.

In game 2, PSG.LGD prepared a difficult-to-execute yet fast-paced draft that included mid Primal Beast and carry Luna. The team made the necessary movements to grab the early lead, and despite a minor 3k networth advantage, it was unable to extend it due to some excellent maneuvers by Gaimin headed by Quinn. While dyrachyo struggled, Quinn on his own helped Gaimin gain the upper hand. PSGLGD had previously failed to execute effective teamfight placement, but after taking its time on the cores, it took the team a couple of brawls around its base to return and equalize the game. After getting the Aegis, the Chinese team had access to a variety of items for bursting opponent cores, allowing them to win a very competitive game in 47 minutes.
