Riot Games shared yet another Dev Update video on 28th July titled “Mid-Year Check-In” where Executive Producer Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and Head of League Studios Andrei “Meddler” Van Roon talked about the upcoming Essence Emporium, more Wild Rift skins getting ported into League, and Quick Play mode that is going to replace Blind Pick eventually. Notably, four months ago, Riot Games said, “We’re testing out Quick Play as a replacement for Blind Pick in select regions (for now).”

This article will dive into what Quick Play is and how it works.

What Is Quick Play in League of Legends?

Quick Play will be an upcoming, new game mode that will let League of Legends players choose roles and champion combinations as and when they queue up. The game mode will let players skip Champ Select and get straight into the game, defeating the purpose of Blind Pick and the lengthy champion select process.

The developers stated that the game mode was supposed to go out before the mid-year patch but was put on hold due to the devs working on the new updates for the game. Ahead of the Quick Play mode's release, Riot Games said it needed to work on the new rank tier Emerald that is getting added this ranked split to the mix. Apart from that, the developers had to work on the 2023 Summer Event titled Soul Fighter, along with the brand new Arena game mode. As a result, Quick Play was put on the back burner.

When the game mode eventually gets ready to be rolled out, it will permanently replace the Summoner's Rift Blind Pick mode.

Having said all that, the bigger question that looms around is when will this game mode be available on live servers. Answering this question, Riot Brightmoon said that the game mode should be ready later this year. This most likely means that the mode will be online on servers during the League of Legends Preseason 2024.

Riot Games also introduced major changes to Ranked in League of Legends. With these changes, players are surely in for a different experience once they start grinding their way to the top in Solo Queue starting from League of Legends Season 13 Ranked Split 2. This went live with LoL Patch 13.14 that went live on 19th July at 12 PM CST.

Notably, player ranks was reset with Split 2. However, players should note that it is only a partial reset, as Riot Games introduced new rank Emerald.
