Phil Spencer Celebrates 10 Years As Head Of Xbox This Weekend

This weekend marks an extremely important milestone in the world of Xbox, as Phil Spencer will be celebrating 10 years as the head of the brand on Sunday, March 31st. Yes, it's really been that long now!

Spencer famously took on the job as Xbox boss following a rough Xbox One launch and the subsequent departure of former head Don Mattrick, and ended up becoming a beloved figure for Xbox fans over the coming years.

Even on his first day in the role, Spencer clearly had plenty of ideas in mind for the future:

"The growth of the Xbox community, with over 80 million Xbox owners around the world, is built on the foundation of exclusive franchises, new and original IP and the world’s most popular cross-platform games. Games and gamers have always been at the core of Xbox and the core of my work—and gaming will be our core as we take Xbox forward."

"This past year has been a growth experience both for me and for the entire Xbox team. We’ve taken feedback, made our products better and renewed our focus on what is most important, our customer. Our mission is to build a world-class team, work hard to meet the high expectations of a passionate fan base, create the best games and entertainment and drive technical innovation. As we continue forward, this renewed focus and mission will be a foundational part of how I lead the Xbox program."

Since then, Spencer has since spearheaded some of the biggest innovations in Xbox history over the past decade including Xbox Game Pass, Backwards Compatibility, Smart Delivery, and of course, the Xbox Series X and Series S.

In fact, you could argue that without Phil Spencer at the helm of the brand, Xbox might not even exist today! That's how important he's been to Xbox over the past 10 years, and fingers crossed he'll stick in the role for many years to come...
