There is a lot in store for Overwatch 2 players with the upcoming Season 6 of the game called Overwatch 2 Invasion. It is all set to release on 10^th August with a lot of features like story missions, story events, hero mastery mode, flashpoint game mode, revamped practice range, and a new player progression system.

While a lot has been discussed about the story missions and events, it is the Flashpoint game mode that has excited many in the community. This player-versus-player (PvP) game mode offers two new large expansive maps while offering a whole different way to approach Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 Flashpoint Game Mode: Complete Details

The Overwatch 2 Invasion first look livestream took place yesterday, 21^st June, with multiple senior developers talking about what they have put together, how it all works, and when the players can expect to see it in the game.

A lot was revealed about the Flashpoint game mode as well and it is nothing like the Two Control Point (2CP) game mode which was there in Overwatch but was never reintroduced in the newer version of the title.

Release Date: When will Overwatch 2 Flashpoint arrive?

The highly anticipated Flashpoint game mode will arrive in Overwatch 2 on 10^th August along with Overwatch 2 Invasion which is also Season Six of the title.

Gameplay Details: How does Overwatch 2 Flashpoint work?

Flashpoint will be among Overwatch 2's other mainstream PvP game modes like Control, Escort, Hybrid, and Push. It will offer something similar but still require teams and players to use new strategies, ideas, and hero compositions to attain victory.

Here are the complete gameplay details for the new game mode and how it shall work.

• The main objective for both teams is to be the first to score three points.

• The way to score a point is to completely capture an objective or checkpoint which is also known as a Flashpoint.

• There are a total of five Flashpoints spread across the entire map. Any one of those will be chosen at random when the match begins and teams will have to fight to capture that particular checkpoint.

• Once captured, another random Flashpoint will be chosen and then teams will have to repeat the same process of capturing it.

• The first team to capture three Flashpoints will be declared as the winner of that particular match.

To put it simply, Flashpoint works a lot like the usual Control game mode, but instead of the match being played as a best-of-three where teams capture a known common checkpoint every round, here teams have no idea which checkpoint they have to fight for until the match reveals them and everything takes place in one take without any hard resets.

So basically, Overwatch 2 players will be playing multiple rounds of Control in a single match, on a single map, without any breaks. It sounds easy but will definitely require a whole different level of strategizing, gameplay, adaptability, instinct, and map awareness.

New Maps: On which maps will Overwatch 2 Flashpoint be played?

The developers have said that Flashpoint will be offering players some of the largest maps that have ever been made for any PvP game mode in Overwatch 2.

Two new maps will be released particularly for this game mode called Suravasa and New Junk City.

Suravasa

• The name of this map basically translates to Temple in English and comes from the Hindi word Surāvāsa which in Sanskrit is called Suravas (सुरावास). This is the reason why it was codenamed 'India' during development.

• It was originally designed to be an Assault game mode, which was available in Overwatch but has been discontinued or not reintroduced so far in the newer version of the title.

• The lore goes something like this, Suravasa is an Indian village that is located across the river from the city being built by the Vishkar Corporation called Roshani. Within Suravasa there is a temple called Shambali which houses the statue of Aurora, visited by both Zenyatta and Symmetra.

New Junk City

• This map is basically an extension of an already existing Overwatch 2 map called Junkertown. It is much more bigger than its sister map which is played as an Escort game mode.

• The location of this map is somewhere in the barren lands of Australia and is home to a lot of heroes like Junker Queen, Junkrat, Roadhog, and Wrecking Ball.

Competitive Play: When will Overwatch 2 Flashpoint arrive in the competitive circuit?

In addition to catering to all the casual players, Overwatch 2 also announced that Flashpoint will be arriving to the Overwatch League on 25^th August.

This means that it will join professional play and share a space in the competitive circuit alongside the other PvP game modes, creating history as it will be the first time that Overwatch will have five different game modes to offer in Standard Play.
