Nintendo Announces Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition for Switch

Nintendo has officially announced Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, which recently leaked via an ESRB rating. Nintendo has also revealed the trailer and the release date. 

According to Nintendo's announcement, the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition focuses primarily on speedrunning. It offers 150 challenges from 13 classic NES titles, including favorites such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong, so players will have plenty of content to sink their teeth into.

The challenges have various modes, including the single-player Speedrun Mode, which introduces fresh challenges and unlockable pins. The World Championships Mode enables players to compete for positions on the global online leaderboards. Additionally, there's a Party Mode tailored for speedrunning, accommodating up to eight local players.

Notably, the game has an automatic rewind function, allowing players to retry challenges without the frustration of starting over. Additionally, Nintendo Switch Online members can compete globally in World Championship Mode for a spot on the leaderboards in weekly rotating challenges.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Price and Release Date

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will be available on the Nintendo eShop on July 18, 2024. The standard edition will cost $29.99, and the Deluxe Set will cost $59.99. The Deluxe Set includes a physical version of the game, 13 art cards representing each NES title featured in the game, and five collectible pins. In addition, the edition has a gold-coloured replica cartridge honoring the 1990 World Championships.
