NetherRealm’s Mobile Team Has Been Shut Down, Approximately 50 Developers Laid Off

Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios has shut down its mobile team, laying off approximately 50 developers in the process.

Reports of the layoff first began appearing on LinkedIn, as GI.Biz reports, as developers came forward with the news that they had been let go and are looking for work.

Some of these developers were NetherRealm veterans who had been with the studio for years. Elizabeth Ramirez, an animator who was impacted in the layoff was with NetherRealm for a full decade.

“It hurts me to announce I’ve been laid off from NetherRealm Studios after about 10 years of working there,” Ramirez said on LinkedIn. “Thank you for the team members that took the time to help me grow as an animator over the years…For now this is a lot to process mentally and I need some time to clear my head.”

Both Warner Bros. and NetherRealm have so far refrained from commenting on the layoff, though this also comes on the back of reports that Warner Bros. is looking at splitting the company in two.

If that’s the case then this could just be the first of many more layoffs to come, as executives shuffle things around to what they perceive to be their place, as they continue to play with peoples lives and livelihoods without ever facing the consequences of their actions.
