Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) purple triangle easter egg guide

The Season Three Reloaded update has added a ton of new content to Zombies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 like an all-new Dark Aether Rift and main story mission, but there are other minor new easter eggs hidden throughout the map as well.

One such easter egg involves a purple triangle in the center of the map. Completing a brief rune puzzle will reward you with 2,000 Essence, a Flawless Aetherium Crystal, and a Legendary Aether Tool, essentially giving you an endgame Zombies kit for free.

How to Do the Purple Triangle Easter Egg in MW3 Zombies

To start the purple triangle easter egg, head to Old Town in the center of the map. Make your way to the Dark Aether Rift where the Union story mission usually begins, but don’t enter. Instead, search around the area for glowing purple runes attached to nearby buildings surrounding the courtyard. There’s a glowing purple triangle on the floor that points to each of the runes.

After you shoot all three runes, glowing purple lines will appear on the buildings in the surrounding area. To continue the easter egg, you have to find a vantage point where all of these lines come together to form a triangle. That vantage point is located on top of the arches near the buy station and the Pack-a-Punch machine to the west.

Head up top and align your perspective with the lines so they create a triangle. If done correctly, they’ll turn from purple to yellow and a purple ring will appear. Zombies will begin to swarm the area. Kill enough glowing purple zombies within the area to complete the easter egg.

Once it’s over, climb back on top of the arches to find a reward rift. Inside, you’ll find 2,000 Essence, a Legendary Aether Tool, and a Flawless Aetherium Crystal. These are incredibly rare rewards that can give you a huge head start on your next Zombies run, so make sure to farm this easter egg every time you return to Old Town in Modern Warfare Zombies.

There are actually three of these purple triangles hidden in the tier three zone of the map, so you can visit any of them to claim additional rewards. They’re involved in a different easter egg, too, so you’ll need to use them if you want to level up the Science Journal, Laptop With Stickers, or Imaginary Friend Drawing to unlock a new Dark Aether Rift.
