Microsoft Reveals A Price Increase For Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft has announced a price increase for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Game Pass. They are set to rise next month for most countries. 

This news comes courtesy of the head of gaming communications at Microsoft speaking to VGC lately. 

“We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market,” Kari Perez says. 

Xbox Series X Price Jump

As of August 1, the price of the Xbox Series X will jump from the current retail price of £449 to £479.99. This is around an 11% price increase. 

This increase will be seen in most countries except for the US, Japan, Chile, Brazil and Colombia, according to VGC.

As a result, the Xbox Series X will now match the price of the PlayStation 5 in many regions. 

This means that if you’re not willing to pay the extra 11%, you will have to get your hands on the hardware within the next month. 

Xbox Game Pass Price Jump

Xbox Game Pass subscriptions will have a price increase next month

As well as a price increase for Microsoft’s hardware, there will also be changes to the Xbox Game Pass subscription amount. 

As of July 6, the standard Pass will jump from £7.99/$9.99 to £8.99/$10.99 per month.

For Game Pass Ultimate members, the price will rise from £10.99/£14.99 to £12.99/$16.99. 

This will be the prices for the console Pass. As of now, there is no news of any price increases for the PC Game Pass.

As with the Xbox Series X, some countries are exempt. This will be Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. 

The Future of Gaming

This inflation is perhaps no surprise considering Sony raised the price of both its PlayStation consoles by around 12% last year. 

Hopefully there will be no further price increases this year, especially considering the cost of games themselves have risen in recent months.
