In the ongoing court battle between the Federal Trade Commission and Microsoft, the latter has revealed the PS5 slim could be arriving soon.

Thanks to some published documents from the ongoing legal battle, Microsoft has revealed that they expect Sony will launch the new PS5 slim later this year.

Alongside news of the upcoming unit, the document also states that Microsoft believes the PS5 Slim will be available for around $399.99 / £359.99 (around the same price as the current PS5 Digital Edition). This is also $100 less than the standard PS5.

During the court proceedings, the company said: “PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point.” (Courtesy of VGC).

Additionally, the tech giant also announced Sony’s plans to release the PS5 Pro console.

“PlayStation, meanwhile, currently offers two different versions of the PlayStation 5—one with a Blu-Ray player for physical media (Standard) and one without (Digital)—and is anticipated to release further differentiated Pro and Slim models in the near future,” they claimed.

It is perhaps no surprise that Sony is planning to release a slimmed-down version of their current console. This tends to be the case for the majority of their products as it offers buyers a smaller and cheaper alternative.

Although we are yet to receive a release date for the PS5 Slim or Pro, it can be expected to arrive around the holiday period (October-December). This would also correspond with the releases of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Not only can we expect these new models, but players are also looking forward to the release of Sony’s Access Controllers.
