Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth Is Here Thanks To The Success Of Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Hiroyuki Sakamoto, the series producer on Like A Dragon, has revealed during a chat with TheGamer that the upcoming Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth would not have likely not come to fruition had it not been for the success of Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

As fans will recall, Yakuza: Like A Dragon was a major departure for the series up to that point, as it introduced turn-based combat into the equation. However, had that game not been a success, then we probably wouldn’t be talking about this new title.

If Like a Dragon 7 wasn’t received very well, then we probably wouldn’t have this game. It is really because of the success of the previous game that we were able to come up with this one.

We really try to focus on the balance between good gameplay and a good story. We don’t want to have just good gameplay and a mediocre story, and vice versa. We’re always trying to have that balance and make sure that we give you the full package in terms of quality.

As is stands, the Like A Dragon series splits its combat mechanics between turn-based and the old-school arcade brawling of old. The mainline games such as Infinite Wealth use turn-based combat, while spin-offs such as Like A Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name adhere to the older mechanics.

Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth will be rocking up to bust some heads on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on January 26, 2024.
