Santa Monica Studios’ God of War Ragnarok has received its first major DLC titled Valhalla which introduces a roguelike mode to the game. This add-on content was announced during The Game Awards this year and it brings new enemy types that you can rip apart in half as Kratos. This DLC was released on 12th December and is completely free for PlayStation 4 and 5 users, which has overjoyed numerous fans. Here’s how you can begin your Roguelike adventures as you traverse the world of Valhalla.

Here’s How You Can Start the Valhalla DLC in GOW: Ragnarok

Before you jump into the game, you need to know that the Valhalla DLC dropped at the same time as Patch 05.01 so you might want to check if this expansion has also been installed. You can do so by hovering over the game icon from your PlayStation’s home screen which will show you an option called “Valhalla”. Click on it and start the download.

The file size for this DLC is around 8 GB for both the PS4 and the PS5. Once you’ve made sure that the expansion has been downloaded and installed, simply launch the game and select this mode from the main menu. Considering that this game mode works as a separate epilogue you might want to familiarize yourself with the game’s ending before you jump into it.

However, if you are starting the game from fresh, you can still check out this mode as you do not need a previous save file to play it.

Playing Through the New Vahalla Game Mode in God of War Ragnarok

This new roguelike game mode brings a set of new challenges that Kratos must endure. While you do start with all your completed skill trees, you can only use the base versions of all your weapons, at least at the beginning.

You will play through multiple runs and try out varying ranges of difficulty as you continue to familiarize yourself with this mode. Being a roguelike means you will be presented with greater rewards if you choose to play on a higher difficulty level. However, these rewards will not be carried over to your main game.

As mentioned before, Valhalla is essentially an epilogue for the base game and while rewards do not transfer over to the main game, your skillsets certainly do. Progressing through the base game and unlocking more skills from the tree will make it easier to deal with Valhalla’s different enemy types.

This free DLC also comes with its own set of trophies and achieving them will require you to deal with some daunting challenges. If you were looking for more Gof of War gameplay, this one’s a no-brainer!
