How Are 100 Thieves Doublelift & Bjergsen Performing in LCS 2023 Spring Split?

The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), the North American (NA) league of the professional League of Legends scene kicked off its 2023 Spring Split on 26th January and the ten teams are currently preparing for a super week with three days of non-stop action between 15th and 17th February. Most of the teams in the LCS underwent roster changes and the biggest talking point of the offseason was veteran player Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng who came out of retirement to play for 100 Thieves (100T). What made the comeback even sweeter was Doublelift’s reunion with former teammate and star mid-laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. 

Interestingly, 100 Thieves has had a fantastic start to its 2023 campaign. Let us look closely at how the team has been performing in the LCS 2023 Spring Split so far.

Bjergsen and Doublelift reunited at 100 Thieves

A shadow of doubt was initially cast upon the return of Doublelift given that the attack damage carry (ADC) player retired in 2020. Talking about his comeback, Doublelift revealed in a short video that attending LANs and co-streaming League of Legends brought back his “competitive itch.” He also noted that coming out of retirement to play professionally would not be an easy task.

On the other hand, Bjergsen had a mere change of teams. In 2022, Bjergsen played in Team Liquid and did not have much success. Bjergsen also retired from professional play after the 2020 season and returned to the LCS as part of Team Liquid in 2022, alongside a stacked roster. The “LCS super team” failed to qualify for Worlds and was pushed to make roster changes.

With Doublelift and Bjergsen playing together yet again, fans were curious to see if the synergy would help the team win games or if it would just turn into one of the “super teams” that looked good only on paper. However, both the veteran players have been steering the helm of 100T in the right direction. In the total six games played, 100 Thieves has won four and lost only two. The team won against Immortals, Dignitas, Team SoloMid (TSM), and Team Liquid and faced losses at the hands of FlyQuest and Cloud9. After the conclusion of the third week of regular play, the team is currently placed second in the standings with the number one spot taken by FlyQuest which has yet to drop a game in the Spring Split. 

Here are some of the key stats of Doublelift and Bjergsen from the first three weeks of competitive play:

In terms of the KDA [Kill/Death/Assist] ratio, Bjergsen is ranked 9th in the league with a KDA of 6.9 and kill participation of 75%. Doublelift, on the other hand, has a KDA of 5.8 and is ranked 12th in the LCS.

Doublelift is ranked second in the league for his kill share (player’s percentage of their team’s total kills) with 41.3% whereas, Bjergsen is ranked 28th in this regard. This essentially means that 100T likes to funnel all the kills into Doublelift’s pockets so that it becomes easier for the ADC to carry the game.

While Doublelift’s Death Share (average share of team’s deaths) is 17.6%, Bjergsen’s death share is even lower at 14.7%. For reference, the highest death share figure in the league is 36.7%, held by Evil Geniuses’ mid-laner Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun.
