Hogwarts Legacy Is UK’s Biggest Harry Potter Game Launch Of All Time, PS5 Version Takes 82% Of Physical Copies Sold

It’s official: Portkey Games‘ Hogwarts Legacy is the biggest Harry Potter game launch of all time in the UK, with the PS5 version of the Wizarding World RPG accounting for 82% of physical copies sold upon its Friday launch.

Hogwarts Legacy’s launch was a staggering 64% higher than the previous record holder, 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Again, this is just for physical sales, so Hogwarts Legacy’s success is no doubt even greater when you factor in digital copies — this can’t be said for Philosopher’s Stone, as there was no digital version back then.

Elsewhere, Hogwarts Legacy was up 80% over last year’s fantasy epic Elden Ring in terms of first week sales, and the Harry Potter franchise currently stands as the UK’s 26th biggest video game franchise, ahead of The Legend of Zelda but just behind Forza.
