Hogwarts Legacy Could End 15 Years Of Rockstar And Call Of Duty Dominance For Best Selling Game In The US

For the last 15 years, when the time comes for tallying up which game sold the most that year in the United States, it’s always been one of two options.

Whatever that year’s Call Of Duty game was, or, something made by Rockstar, which could potentially be anything from Grand Theft Auto VI to Grand Theft Auto V to Red Dead Redemption or Red Dead Redemption 2.

Not an entirely varied list of games at the top of the heap, but for the first time in the last 15 years, a game not made by Activision or Rockstar could stand tall as the best selling game in the US for 2023, and that game is Hogwarts Legacy.

As reported by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, Hogwarts Legacy remains at the top of the charts, though Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III has already jumped to second place for best selling game this year, and still has time to catch up.

Whatever your thoughts on the game are, it’s undeniable that it continues to sell, each month, and that it has been hugely successful for Avalanche Software.

If Hogwarts Legacy is able to hold off, it breaks a long-running streak of the same games being the best selling in the US no matter what else comes out.

Though no doubt 2024’s best selling game will be whatever Call Of Duty title gets released next year.
