Here’s How You Can Increase Your Affinity in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 features an overhauled version of the affinity system that allows players to form relationships and strengthen their bonds with NPCs.

The most reliable way to increase your affinity with your favorite character is by offering Gifts such as Flowers, Idols, Food, etc.

Keep in mind that you cannot spam gifts to increase your bond with a character, as the game limits affinity increases to once per day.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 (DD2) boasts a diverse cast of characters whom you will encounter on your journey through its vast open world encompassing Vermund and its subregions. Much like its predecessor, DD2 incorporates an affinity system, allowing your Arisen to build and maintain relationships with several side characters, some even leading to romantic encounters.

However, to unlock the full potential of these connections, you need to increase your bond with these characters, allowing your Arisen to access new skills and abilities, discounts on specific items, and even reciprocate your romantic interests. Let’s cut to the chase and figure out how you can earn affinity in DD2.

How Can You Increase Your Affinity With Characters in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, players are free to increase their affinity with any named NPC, regardless of their chosen class or their Arisen’s physical appearance. Although you can undertake quests and favors for your beloved characters, the main way to raise your affinity with them is by offering Gifts that they would like. These might be items like Flowers, Idols, Food, etc.

To do this, you must simply talk to your favorite in-game character, and in the middle of your conversation, you will notice the “Gift” prompt,  which will take you to your inventory and let you select one specific item to offer them.

However, this does not mean you can bombard the NPC with gifts and max out your affinity with them in one day. The game has a mechanic to ensure the systematic increase of affinity, allowing you to do so only once per day. Additionally, you also need to know that each NPC has a preferred taste when it comes to these gifts, which means offering random items will not improve your bond with them.

Thankfully, you can make use of the NPC Logbook, which will allow you to see their Likes, along with other aspects like Gender, Race, and even their Residence. Six different item types can be offered to NPCs depending on their preferences. These are:

  • Interesting Items

  • Fancy Items

  • Adorable Items

  • Beautiful Items

  • Rare Items

  • Expensive Items

The only exception to this is Flowers, specifically designed for this purpose and are universally liked by all characters in the game. However, Flowers can be rare to come by, so we recommend we wait until you meet the right one, if any. Keep in mind that items in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can also become stale and rot away. This means you might end up gifting dried flowers or rotten meat to your favorite NPC, so make sure you check their status in the inventory before offering them.

Apart from the Gift mechanics, DD2 also has two other reliable ways through which you can earn affinity. The first one comes from the Trickster Vocation, which when unlocked, will grant you a trait called Allure, allowing you to easily increase your bond with other characters. The second comes from the elusive Eternal Bond Ring that can be offered to a character to greatly increase your affinity with them. Keep in mind that acquiring this ring demands 120 Seeker’s Tokens.

Once you reach a higher level of affinity with your preferred characters, you can gain rewards and favors from them.  The most common items you will receive are Freerystones and Wakestones, which will be dropped off right outside your house. If you happen to be close with a Trader, you might get significant offers on their wares.
