The latest Helldivers 2 downtime was likely (and very ironically) caused by the announcement of a double XP weekend, which dropped as an apology for the spotty service throughout the week.
This issue sometimes prevented mission rewards from being paid out, with the double XP boost meant to smooth things over with the playerbase over its first, likely very busy, weekend.
