Nintendo announced that the Golden Sun games will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. Both of the GBA games will be added as part of the Expansion Pack tier on January 17, 2024.

Golden Sun originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It was developed by Camelot Software Planning, best known for their work on Mario Golf and Mario Tennis, as well as developing the Shining Force series with Sega. Golden Sun featured a group of teenagers with magical powers known as Adepts. Its sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age was released in 2002 in Japan and 2003 in North America and Europe. It featured the antagonists of the first game as its protagonists.

The Golden Sun series is highly praised, considered by many to be some of the best RPGs ever made. As well as their original release, both games have previously appeared on the Virtual Console for the Wii U eShop. The first game’s protagonist, Isaac, also made an appearance in the Super Smash Bros series as an Assist Trophy. A third game in the series, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, released for the DS in 2010. This game has not been re-released on any other Nintendo system.

Like other GBA games, the Golden Sun games will be releasing as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Other GBA games released for the service so far have included the Super Mario Advance series and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade.

Both Golden Sun GBA games will be released for Nintendo Switch Online on January 17, 2024.
