Future Battlefield game aiming for ‘the most realistic destruction effects in the industry’

The next game from Battlefield studio Ripple Effect, the studio previously known as DICE LA, is aiming to deliver the most realistic destruction effects in any video game.

That’s according to a new job ad for a VFX director role, which states that the EA-owned developer is “looking for a Senior 3D Artist like you to help us create the most realistic and exciting destruction effects in the industry.”

Ripple Effect is currently one of multiple studios working on the Battlefield franchise, which has seen its production significantly restructured following the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042.

DICE is currently working on a future multiplayer experience for the Battlefield series and will serve as a co-developer on the next Battlefield single-player campaign, alongside Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto’s newly-founded Ridgeline Games.

According to EA, Ripple Effect is working an “entirely new Battlefield experience that will complement and build upon the series’ foundations.”

The Los Angeles developer had previously acted as a support team for other studios, including working with DICE to develop Battlefield 2042.

In December 2021, EA announced its intention to create a “connected Battlefield universe” alongside widespread changes to the franchise’s development structure.

As part of these plans, DICE’s former general manager Oscar Gabrielson left EA altogether, while Respawn and Infinity Ward co-founder Vince Zampella took on a new role as the overseer of the entire Battlefield franchise.
