Funko Fusion: Everything We Know

4 months ago 140

Scoot over, LEGO — geek culture’s square-headed pop vinyl figures are about to make their global debut in an all-new co-op game called Funko Fusion. Yes, there is, in fact, a pop vinyl-themed game in the works, and it promises to bring countless figurines from all over the network to an action-packed multiplayer universe for consoles and PC. So, if you’re all for the idea of pitting Klaus from The Umbrella Academy against Chucky from Child’s Play, then you’re about to have your wildest fantasies sprout to life. Or at least, so we think.

10:10 Games’ upcoming four-player title doesn’t have a release date just yet, though according to the team, it’ll be heading to all major platforms at some point in 2024. Not quite satisfied? Here’s everything else we can tell you about the upcoming project.

What Is Funko Fusion?

Back 2 The Future in Funko Fusion

To put you in the picture, Funko Fusion is an all-in-one co-op game in which players harness the power of countless pop vinyl figurines, as made famous by the beloved Funko brand. In the game, up to four players will have the opportunity to unlock characters from all-star franchises such as Jurassic World and The Umbrella Academy. Think The LEGO Movie: Video Game, but with a complete roster of NBCUniversal heroes and villains, and you’re halfway there. Or at least, that’s what we’re hoping for, anyway.

In the words of 10:10 Games: “Experience your favourite movies and TV shows like never before in Funko Fusion, a 4-player action-adventure game that brings together iconic characters and worlds from Jurassic World, Back to the Future, The Umbrella Academy, The Thing, Child’s Play 2, Masters of the Universe and many other blockbusters in Funko Pop! form.”

Story

Jurassic World in Funko Fusion

At the time of writing, 10:10 Games is keeping a rather tight lid on the actual storyline for Funko Fusion. For that reason alone, we can’t really go beyond speculation at this moment in time. With that said, it does seem that there’ll be a fairly wide variety of themed stages to check out, and of course, a set amount of characters to unlock in each region. But as for what the overall goal of the game is, on the other hand, is still anybody’s guess. Here’s hoping, then, that 10:10 Games sheds a little more light on the matter at some point in the near future.

Gameplay

Chucky in Funko Fusion

From the looks of the sneak preview that was shared some ways back, Funko Fusion will feature a myriad of sandbox environments, all of which will allow for numerous characters from the pop vinyl roster to explore, battle, and quest in. Aside from all that, there hasn’t been a great deal of talk on the matter, which leads us to think that it could, in all honesty, be something of a crossover brawler game, at most. The jury’s currently out on that one, I’m afraid.

Funko Fusion features dozens of playable characters in Funko Pop! form from popular NBCUniversal stories, all lovingly crafted with their own unique personalities and abilities,” the game’s description reads in part. “Play with up to four players and explore incredible worlds from the movies and TV shows you love.”

At this moment in time, we know that The Umbrella Academy, Jurassic World, Shaun of the Dead, and Back to the Future will have some involvement in the game. However, judging by the amount of brands that Funko currently has in its arsenal, it’s more than likely that there’ll be several, if not dozens of other additions at some point in the rollout phase.

Development

Pop vinyl in Funko Fusion

Funko Fusion is currently under the wing of both 10:10 Games, a firm established by five-times BAFTA winner and TT Games founder Jon Burton, and NBCUniversal, a media giant that has been responsible for the likes of NBC News, Bravo, and Peacock. Suffice it to say, the pop vinyl-centric IP is in a good spot, so if you ever had any doubts about the game not being in the right hands, then don’t sweat it, basically.

10:10 Games’ co-founder Arthur Parsons adds, “It’s incredibly exciting to be able to show everyone what the team here at 10:10 Games have been up to…. Harnessing the incredible properties we've been entrusted with by our partners at NBCUniversal, bringing them together into a gaming experience that is incredibly fun, surprising, authentic, and celebrates fandom like never before, all experienced through a Funko lens.”

Thankfully, we do have a bit of footage to share from the upcoming project. Granted, it doesn’t give a whole lot away — especially in the plot or gameplay department, but it does provide a minor glimpse into some of the game’s active characters and features. Need we say more? You can check it out for yourself in the trailer embedded above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

The Umbrella Academy in Funko Fusion

Funko Fusion will be gearing up to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC at some stage in 2024.
