Iconic slasher movie villain Jason Voorhees is set to appear in more games in the future.

A new enterprise called Jason Universe has been set up in an attempt to bring the Friday the 13th villain to the modern era through a variety of new projects and appearances, IGN reports.

Jason Universe will be run in collaboration with Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller (who owns the domestic rights to the original movie).

The Jason Universe Facebook page describes it as “a new era of the Friday the 13th franchise”.

“Stay tuned for news on fresh entertainment, games, experiences, merch and more starring everyone’s favorite hockey-mask-wearing villain,” it says.

The Jason Universe site currently has a link to its social media accounts and a form to sign up for its newsletter, but no further information on Jason’s future appearances.

Its X account, however, is currently only following one other account on the social media platform, which is Fortnite.

Since the release of the original Friday the 13th in 1980, Jason has appeared in a number of games over the decades, including an NES game by Acclaim and a home computer game by Domark.

2017’s asymmetrical horror game Friday the 13th: The Game was pulled from sale on December 31, 2023 after its licence expired.

The same fate befell critically acclaimed mobile game Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle, which was delisted in January 2023 due to “the inability to renew the licence with the licensors”.

Jason also appeared as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat X, alongside movie villains Predator, Alien and Leatherface.

The overall Friday the 13th franchise continues to be owned by Warner Bros.
