The LEC will be crowning its Season 2023 champion this weekend and the teams remaining in the running are Fnatic, MAD Lions, and G2 Esports.

On 28th August, top laner Oscarinin revealed that he played the lower bracket match against Excel with an injured hand. Following this, Wunder was brought in as his substitute.

Fnatic now announced that Wunder shall continue to sub in for Oscarinin as he takes time off to heal his hand.

On 28th August, right after Fnatic won against Excel Esports in the lower bracket opening match of the League of Legends EMEA [Europe, Middle East & Africa] Championship 2023 Season Finals and secured a place in Worlds 2023, the organization announced that its top laner Óscar "Oscarinin" Muñoz suffered a hand injury.

Following this, in the series against BDS, Fnatic brought back its benched player Martin "Wunder" Hansen to substitute injured Oscarinin. With Fnatic playing against MAD Lions today on 9th September in the Lower Bracket Finals, the organization stated that Wunder shall continue to play in the top lane as Oscarinin rests and heals before Worlds 2023.

Wunder Will Continue Playing for Fnatic in LEC Season Finals 2023

On 8th September, a day before the Lower Bracket Finals against MAD Lions, Fnatic posted an update regarding Oscarinin's hand inujry. It posted on Twitter, "We're not done yet - @wunderlol will continue substituting in the top lane as we take to the stage in Montpellier! @OscarininXD's hand injury requires more time to heal, so we'll make sure to fight our hardest for the LEC Trophy. Can't wait to see you all in France!"

As a result, benched player Wunder will play as the top laner against MAD Lions. Notably, this seasoned veteran played his first competitive series in almost seven months on 2nd September and on this occasion, Fnatic beat Team BDS with a 3-2 score. Wunder had very little practice time to work with his fellow teammates and get back into the groove of communicating and playing in the current meta.

On 28th August, as Oscarinin's injury was revealed, Wunder tweeted that he did not expect to play competitively this year and then Fnatic contacted him, communicating the unfortunate situation. He added, "I have agreed to help them out to give them a fighting chance and will use this week trying my hardest to get ready for this playoff meta."

Despite losing a core member of its League of Legends roster, Fnatic managed to not only make it to Montpellier, France for the season finals but also made it to Worlds 2023. Fnatic's year was filled with ups and downs and the team was placed ninth in the Winter Split and 8th in the Spring Split.

The LEC Season Finals 2023 is the culmination of the 2023 LEC season and the top six teams from across the competitive season were selected to fight for the championship in a double elimination bracket and qualification to Worlds 2023. The top three teams qualify for the Worlds 2023 and the fourth-placed team qualifies for the Worlds 2023 Qualifying Series against a North American team.

You can watch all the LEC Season Finals drama between Fnatic and MAD Lions today at 6 pm CET on the official LEC channel on Twitch.
