F1 24: Everything We Know

Formula 1 fans have lots in store this year. First is the first round of the 2024 Formula 1 season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, kicking off on March 2, 2024. Soon after, the F1 24 game will be released, with the release date already confirmed. Based on past games, you probably have expectations ahead of release. Will EA Sports and Codemasters change the game engine? Will there be PSVR2 compatibility? Just how many quality-of-life changes does F1 24 plan to bring to the grid? Stay tuned for everything we know about the upcoming F1 24. 

What is F1 24?

F1 24 is an upcoming official racing game based on the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship. It’ll be the 15th consecutive F1 game from developer Codemasters, now in partnership with publisher EA Sports. F1 24 will feature officially licensed teams, tracks, and drivers from the F1 2023 and the upcoming Formula 1 2024 seasons. As is tradition, we expect content updates to keep steamrolling into the game throughout the season.

Story

It’s unclear whether F1 23’s Breaking Point, F1’s version of story mode, will return in F1 24, especially after its emission in F1 22. Here’s to hoping the mode returns with an even better experience than ever before.

Gameplay

If you’ve played F1 23, you’ll enjoy a soft landing in F1 24. That’s because most of the modes and features in the previous entry return in F1 24. However, we have a couple of tweaks here and there for a better experience. 

For starters, you can expect the return of popular offline Time Trial and Grand Prix modes. EA Sports confirms an all-new Driver Career mode. You’ll also play the popular My Team Career Mode, where you create your own unique team and race to the top. Additionally, F1 24 will feature split-screen and cross-platform multiplayer. You’ll also enjoy getting to know other players via the new Racenet Leagues. 

Through EA Sports’ dynamic handling, you can expect improvements to your racing experience. Specifically, EA Sports is adding the latest physics and authentic handling to give you full reign over your driving style. Consequently, you should enjoy a more streamlined racing strategy and overall car performance.

As for the confirmed circuits, you can expect all 24 official circuits in the final game. Here’s the complete list of the circuits to expect:

Like the confirmed tracks, there aren’t many changes to expect in the drivers and teams. Here’s the complete list of the current ten F1 teams and their respective drivers below.

Development

Developer Codemasters and publisher EA Sports are currently working on F1 24. Codemasters has held the F1 development torch for over 15 years now. EA Sports, on the other hand, joined the party a little later, after their acquisition of Codemasters in 2021. 

One of the prime concerns has been a new engine. Codemasters has used the Ego engine on every iteration since F1 2010. Unfortunately, we don’t know whether they plan to switch to an upgrade this time around. Since EA Sports WRC changed to Unreal Engine 4, perhaps F1 24 will do the same? Let’s wait and see.

Trailer

The first official announcement trailer is out now. While it’s only 34 seconds long, you can get a sneak peek into what to expect. You see slick animations of race cars speeding down circuits and wrapping up with confirmation of a full reveal coming in April.  

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

It’s official. F1 24 will be released on May 31, 2024. That’s way earlier than past releases in the series, with F1 23 launching on June 15, 2023, and F1 22 launching on July 1, 2022. No complaints here, provided the final launch is an elevated experience. If you’d like to get your hands on the game even earlier, you can preorder it and have it on your doorstep as early as May 28, 2024. 

As for expected platforms, F1 24 plans to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Epic Games, the EA App, and Steam. F1 23 didn’t make it to the Nintendo Switch, so it’s no surprise that F1 24 won’t either. The same goes for editions, which include the Standard and Champions Editions, that offer more bonuses.
