Black Myth: Wukong is a third-person action RPG made by Chinese Developer Game Science. Initially, the developers were very secretive about the game, only releasing a 13-minute pre-alpha footage in August 2020. However, we got to see them uncover more details about it at a few gaming events. The game is deeply rooted in Chinese mythology and inspired by a 16th-century classical Chinese literature titled Journey to the West. Players take on the role of the destined one, as they explore the world a land filled with vast wonders that you have never come across before. Here’s everything we know about the game so far.

At the recent Gamescom 2023 event, we witnessed the official trailer for the game along with the gameplay video that featured Sun Wukong, the apparent protagonist battling out several bosses in an eerie yet aesthetically pleasing setting.

This game has the potential to stand as a strong competition to FromSoftware’s games, especially in terms of its enemy design and layout, as we got to see complex movements and actions performed by Sun Wukong's adversaries. 

At Gamescom 2023, many gamers got the chance to experience Black Myth Wukong and give their initial impressions. Gamespot’s Chris Morris and Dave Jewitt were one of the lucky ones who got to familiarize themselves with the game. 

They state that the combat mechanics were so fast and fluid that it almost felt like a dance as the character utilized his staff. They also mentioned that the game had bizarre spells that could transform how you interact with your enemies. Your flesh could turn to stone which stuns an enemy, You could summon monkey allies with a lock of your hair or you can also choose to morph yourself into a fiery warrior. This shows the level of complexity and the dynamic style of gameplay that we can expect from the game.

The game was also moved to Unreal Engine 5 further enhancing its visual elements. This has led to many gamers calling the game a next-gen souls-like after taking a look at its versatile combat mechanics and boss designs.
