In September 2023, Dota fans across Southeast Asia (SEA) were treated to exciting news as ESL One announced it would be returning to Malaysia at the end of the year.

With a total prize pool of $1,000,000 USD on the line, twelve elite Dota 2 teams from around the world will assemble in Malaysia, marking the start of the event. These squads will vie for one of the eight available spots in the playoffs, which will be held live at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from 15th to 17th December.

The remaining eight contenders will emerge from the crucible of the open and closed qualifiers, scheduled to take place between 12th and 18th November. The format of the event is simple and straightforward. Firstly, the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 will kick off on 11th December with a three-day Group Stage featuring two groups of six teams each. The teams will compete in a single round-robin format. The top six teams from the Group Stage will advance to the live Playoffs, which will be a double elimination bracket.
