Bandai Namco has announced that Eddy Gordo will be the first DLC character in Tekken 8.

A new trailer showing the game’s opening movie ends with a short clip revealing that Eddy will be released in spring 2024.

He will be followed by three more characters, set to be released in the summer, autumn and winter, making up the game’s Season 1 character content.

Initially appearing in Tekken 3, Eddy is one of the more popular characters in the game, but also one of the most divisive. Fans like his elaborate capoeira kicks, but others think the ability to spam these kicks makes him an annoying character to fight against.

The previous game, Tekken 7, launched on consoles with 36 characters but added a further 14 over the course of four seasons of DLC, including guest fighters like Negan from The Walking Dead, Noctis from Final Fantasy 15 and Geese Howard from Fatal Fury.

As such, it’s likely that Eddy will be the first of many fighters set to be added to Tekken 8 over the course of the game’s life.

Tekken 8 will be released on January 26 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

A demo for the game was released in December and is still available to download for free.

According to Bandai Namco, “Tekken 8 continues the tragic saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines and their world-shaking father-and-son grudge matches.

“In this latest chapter, Jin Kazama will seek to defy his fate as he faces his father Kazuya Mishima causing war and destruction across the globe.

“Along with the main storyline experience that flows from Hollywood-grade cutscenes to over-the-top battles, separate character episodes provide more insight into the individual stories of each character.”

The game will also include a new single-player Arcade Quest mode. It sees players create an avatar and visit different digital arcades to participate in matches in a bid to become the world’s top player.
