Dragon's Dogma 2 Patch

The first big update for Dragon's Dogma 2 has landed, with Capcom having promised a slew of improvements earlier in the week. Patch 1.050 is available to download now on PS5, weighing in at 515MB.

This one's all about graphics options, really. The game launched with no way to adjust visuals and performance on consoles, but it now offers toggles for motion blur and ray tracing. In theory, disabling something like ray tracing should help the title maintain a more stable frame rate, but Capcom says such an improvement won't be "significant". We'll need to do some testing, then.

The update also lets you cap said frame rate at 30 frames-per-second. Previously, the frame rate was uncapped, meaning that it could fluctuate all the way to 60fps. Assuming this mode actually keeps the frame rate closer to 30, then it might be preferable for some players.

Some welcome gameplay improvements are included as well. The option to simply start a new game is now included on the main menu, and the item that lets you fully customise you and your pawn's appearance has been made much more available.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Update 1.050 Patch Notes

General Improvements

  • Added the option to start a new game when save data already exists
  • Changed the 'Art of Metamorphosis' items available at Pawn Guilds in the game to 99
  • Made the quest that allows players to acquire their own dwelling (where they can save and rest) available earlier in the game
  • Fixed miscellaneous text display issues
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

PS5 Graphics Settings

  • Added the option to switch Motion Blur on / off in Options
  • Added the option to switch Ray Tracing on / off in Options
  • Added the option to set Frame Rate at Max 30fps in Options

Again, Capcom says that specific frame rate improvements are "planned for future updates". Hopefully they're not too far off.
