1 week ago 37

For gamers who have been on the video game scene long enough, it’s unlikely you haven’t encountered a Call of Duty installment. Call of Duty is a long-standing military video game series that first hit consoles in 2003. Originally developed by Infinity Ward, the franchise has seen several spin-offs, sequels, and other handheld titles from different developers. And if you have been keeping tabs on the releases, you know Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled for release in 2024.

As it is the sequel to Cold War, we can only hope that the developers drop a title that takes Call of Duty history to a whole new level. Here is a quick comparison of Call of Duty: Black Ops vs Cold War.

What is Call of Duty Black Ops 6?

Black Ops 6 - Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the latest installation and a subseries of the game’s spin-off, Call of Duty: Black Ops. The upcoming first-person shooter game marks the 21st iteration of the Call of Duty franchise and the 7th release in the Black Ops subseries. This time, the next chapter in the Call of Duty series is co-developed by many developers. In addition to Treyarch and Raven Software, High Moon Studios, Activision Shanghai. Additionally, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Demonware are part of the team.

What is Cold War?

Treyarch and Raven Software introduced Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020. The game’s entry was controversial after the developers dropped their standard naming system. The new model would have the game emerge as Black Ops: Cold War, for what fans would have guessed to be Black Ops 5. However, because the new subseries follows up on the original game’s story, it makes sense to alter the pattern to Black Ops: Cold War as it was not a direct follow-up to Black Ops 4

It still comes from the main Black Ops 6 developers and is a first-person shooter game published by Activision Studios. The FPS action title marked the sixth installation of the Black Ops spin-off and the 17th game in the entire COD franchise.

Story- Black Ops 6 vs Cold War

storyline

With Black Ops Cold War, players continue the original Black Ops gameplay in a direct continuation of the story. It’s set in the 1980s during the Cold War, 13 years after the events of the original Black Ops.  The story mainly revolves around the pursuit of Perseus. This is the Soviet Union spy plans to overturn the US power balance in favor of the Soviet Union. Players take on the role of a member of the CIA operatives assembled by Adler. Their task is to prevent the Soviet Union attacks on the free land.

It’s hard to tell how the story progresses in Black Ops 6, given Call of Duty’s mishandling of title names. While it makes sense to have Cold War in place of Black Ops 5, players can only wait to see if Black Ops 6’s story follows up on Black Ops 4

Gameplay

Gameplay differences

Dive into the volatile worlds of Black Ops Cold War and experience the heat of the 1980s Cold War. Live through the gripping experience as you come incredibly close to the war’s difficult truths and historical characters in FPS battles. You assume the role of Bell, a member of the elite team tasked with hunting Perseus. You can choose your character’s skin tone, gender, nationality, and the intelligence agency. Engage in fierce battles in iconic locations like the Soviet Union’s KGB, Berlin, and Vietnam. Each playthrough bears a unique turnout, depending on your choices.

Although Black Ops 6 could have a different story than the prequel, the game will probably continue from one of the franchise’s subseries. That means the gameplay will be pretty much familiar, with the events picking up from one of the spin-offs.

Game Modes

Black Ops 6 vs Cold War

As the norm in the Call of Duty series, every installation comes with a campaign mode, the primary and single-player gameplay mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War became the first subseries to feature a campaign mode that provides players with different playthrough endings depending on their choices throughout the campaign. Its multiplayer mode also leveled up with the usual 6v6 player format and a more vigorous 12v12 player combat. A new mode, the Fireteam, is another addition, supporting up to 40 players.

For Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, players can expect the same game modes, although this does not rule out the fact that Treyarch and Raven could introduce new features. However, a single-player campaign and a multiplayer component are almost obvious. Besides, the game might feature a new iteration of the franchise’s coop zombies mode.

Platforms

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launched on November 13, 2020, for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game later joined Steam on March 8, 2023. For Black Ops 6, fans will catch the action on their Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass. The game will premiere in late 2024. However, its full title reveal is scheduled for June 9 after the Xbox Games Showcase event.

Verdict

Black Ops 6,

Treyarch and Raven Software have always followed a standard format in their title installations, until the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The game messed up the series’ sequence, somewhat disorienting fans’ expectations of the upcoming release. However, away from that, Cold War still lives up to players’ expectations of the Call of Duty franchise.

After returning to the subseries’ naming sequence, Black Ops 6 will probably be a notch higher. It boasts the longest game in development in the entire Call of Duty series and has been play-tested since 2022. But for now, fans can only build anticipation with the live-action teasers as we wait for the full reveal.
