Bug Abuse: Players Surrender Instantly in League of Legends, Ranked Disabled

4 months ago 125

League of Legends is no stranger to bugs and bug abuses but a recent one let players instantly surrender.

When a person surrendered the game seconds after it started, their team would lose LP while the enemy team would gain LP.

As a result, Riot Games has disabled ranked queues for servers including Oceania and Singapore.

League of Legends has a slew of bugs and errors in-game and ever so frequently a game-breaking one is discovered, forcing Riot Games to act swiftly. It becomes extremely important to fix these bugs as they may impact the competitive integrity of the game and player experience.

YouTuber and bug-finder Vandiril revealed that there is a massive surrender exploit in the game that allows players to forfeit (FF) the game just after seconds after spawning on the Summoner's Rift.

As a result, it looks like Riot Games has disabled Ranked Queues in several servers including Oceania (OCE) and Singapore (SG).

What Is the Surrender Bug in League of Legends?

According to Vandiril and other players on social media sites including Twitter, the surrender bug or exploit allows players to instantaneously surrender the game. This means you do not have a majority of votes to end the game but just simply starting the vote will effectively end it.

What's more interesting is that while those players whose teammate surrenders lose LP (League Points), the opponents gain LP.

On Twitter, Vandiril wrote, "Riot has actually shipped INSTANT SURRENDER 'feature' from PBE to the live servers. Yes, you can surrender with 1 vote instantly in game. This cannot be real... It just can't be..."

He added that this surrend exploit makes players gain/lose LP. Vandiril also stated that multiple players confirmed this.

A League of Legends player named Cheasle2 on Twitter confirmed, "16 SECONDS [for a game] FOR +29 [LP]. GOOD DAY OF RANKED," adding, "@Vandiril the PBE bug that let you FF with 1 vote immediately MADE IT ONTO LIVE SERVERS."

It was also made clear by the community that this surrender exploit was prevalent on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) and that Riot Games accidentally pushed it onto the live servers.

One Twitter user said, "I dont think I have to mention that this is literally their FLAGSHIP game, I have seen this bug being reported on PBE like a week ago or something? this is just more (expected) pathetic display."

Riot Games has seemingly disabled Ranked Queues to resolve the issue.

For those of you who do not know, surrendering in League of Legends is a vote that allows a team to forfeit the game. Any player can call for a surrender vote by typing /surrender, /ff, /concede or /forfeit in chat, or by simply pressing the "Surrender" button in the options menu.

  • The three types of surrender are:

  • Surrender

  • AFK Surrender

  • Remake

Once a surrender vote is initiated, a display will pop-up menu for 60 seconds and this is when other players can choose to give yes or no.

Notably, at least five out of five players or 70% of the team must agree to surrender for the game to end.
